Thousands of parents have entered Nancy's lecture room feeling anxious and confused about the subject of reading and have left one hour later bubbling
over with excitement about using her simple method for helping all children--precocious readers and those with
reading difficulties--become skilled, enthusiastic readers.
Drawing upon up-to-date scientific research and her own experience as a teacher and mother, Nancy explain why it is easier than most people believe to raise readers--and gives a hands-on demonstration of specific activities that even the busiest parents and teachers can use in daily life with infants, toddlers and school-aged children.

As an English teacher, author, mother of children with reading difficulties, parenting lecturer, and founder and director of Common Sense Parent, Nancy Newman has dealt with reading and learning issues from many different perspectives for more than forty years.
While teaching remedial English in junior and
senior high schools in the Bronx, and remedial writing at the College of Staten
Island, Nancy witnessed the destructive--sometimes tragic--impact of early reading problems on people's lives. Determined
to help her struggling students succeed in school, she developed an effective
classroom approach that bolstered their weak language skills, repaired their mangled self-esteem and whetted their appetite for learning.
When she became a mother, she used this same approach to help her three sons--two of whom are dyslexic--become voratious readers and dazzling students. Since l995, she has given workshops to parents and educators in schools, libraries and community centers in the New York metropolitan area. Her novel, Disturbing The Peace, which is about an adoptee's search for her biological mother, was published by HarperCollins in 2002. To learn more about
